The Lamplighter
Publication + Copywriting + Art DirectionWinter 2023, 6 weeks
OverviewThe Lamplighter is an editorial project for horror fans of all mediums meant to delve into the history and evolution of horror sub-genres. This edition of The Lamplighter discusses the origin of liminality, the evolution of cosmic and existential horror, how House of Leaves has influenced the horror genre, and includes reviews of liminal horror from the past six decades.
ApproachTerms such as Liminal Spaces and the Uncanny Valley have grown in popularity as popular culture explores these concepts. This edition of The Lamplighter delves into the roots of this new trend of dread and explains how existential horror has changed. This edition also takes inspiration from traditional newpapers for its initial structure, but then takes the ergodic style of House of Leaves to become more uncomfortable and give the reader an uncanny feeling. For a liminal inspired publication, it’s appropriate that it itself be an example of liminality.
